Velikden Cup 2011

After the Ultra Long Championships in Baia Mare I traveled to Bucharest with Bogya Tamas, Andreea Danila and Suciu Simion. We had to take the anti-doping test and the annual medical test. After this only Tamas remained in Bucharest, because on Friday morning we would have left for Velikden Cup 2011, in Targovishte, Bulgaria. It was nice having Tamas around for training. On Friday we were close not to get to the start of the Prologue (One Man Relay) because we had to stay more than 1h in the border between Romania and Bulgaria. Everybody seemed to go to Bulgaria to spend their Easter Weekend!
The rush to get to the competition seemed to have got to me as i just couldn`t concentrate on the course and did 3 big mistakes that cost me a lot of time.

For the second day of competition we went to the same village as the One Man Relay. Only this time we had a forest sprint. My running speed was good and even though I did only a small mistake in the second control I had a good morale until i hurt my ankle a bit. From that point I just couldn`t concentrate on the map and I did 2 big mistakes. My result could have been by far a lot better.
P.S. Next time I will listen to Tamas and I will wear the Active Ankle no matter what!

It`s now a tradition that every Velikden Cup has a banquet. This year it was nice, with good food and nice music (special thanks to Ursli Jordi for the great song).

After the first two bad days I wanted to do a good race in the middle distance, and so I did, with only some small mistakes and 2 somehow bad route choices. This time my map reading was good but my running speed was not. The stage was won by Kiril Nikolov with a fabulous time!

Middle Distance Map

For the last day, as usual in Velikden Cup, we had the Long Distance (WRE) - the map was good and the terrain was nice (even though on some downhill parts I had to move very slow because of my ankle). I did a clean and steady race, with only a bad route choice to the 8th control (lost 2 min) and some small errors. Probably I could have pushed harder with my running but I am satisfied with the result.

National Championships in Ultra-Long Distance?

Last weekend I traveled to Baia Mare for the so called Ultra-Long Distance Championships. In fact it was only a normal Long Distance ( a very fast and easy one even though I managed to do a lot of mistakes).
This days I am on the run everyday so probably I will tell the story after Velikden Cup in Bulgaria!
Happy Easter to all of you out there!

Brown Cup 2011

Even though my morale was good after the marathon training last weekend, I didn`t manage to pull a good performance at this year`s Brown Cup. The sprint was nice but the scale 1:2500 and the weird interpretation of the walls made it very difficult. My performance could have been better in the sprint but I did a lot of mistakes do to the fact that i was trying to run at high speed but the conditions were not very good for fast running. I should have been disqualified because I jumped a lot of walls but so did everyone else because it was almost impossible to avoid every wall.

Sprint Results

For the middle distance I had a good feeling, and I started really good. But after a small mistake in the 2nd control, on the route to the 3rd I felt down bad and hurt again my right ankle. So from there was only slow running and almost no orienteering problem. Only when I changed a bit the speed from 16th control to the 17th I did a big mistake going straight to 18th. My performance overall was not very bad but the speed was low. I was sad about my performance yesterday and just couldn`t get why me every time.
I will try to protect my ankle this week in order to be in good shape for the Ultra Long Distance National Champs next weekend.

Back On Track

This weekend I was with my friends Daniel and Adi in Moeciu de Sus, the place where EcoMarathon 2011 will take place. This trip was long planed. After the dissaster weekend in Izvoru Muresului I was a bit nervous to see how my body would cope with 2 days of hard running. But fortunate for me everything went good and I came back to Bucharest with a good morale. During this trip I made 2 new friends (Andrei and Adi - great guys). Overall it was a good weekend and I can only hope to have more and more of good and positive experiences.

Also I would like to thank Mihai Orleanu for the guidance on the Marathon tracks!Looking forward to running the actual Marathon Race in May!
